Do you or someone you love have a problem?

With alcohol?

Is alcohol causing you difficulties and making you feel bad? Many people can enjoy a drink without a problem but if it is having a negative effect on your life – or if the people who care about you are worried about you – then maybe you need help.

Most of us with alcohol problems struggle on for a long time before we admit we need help and during this time our drinking gets worse. It will not get better on its own. Most of us end up needing help but we have gone a long way ‘down the hill’ before admitting it. You might have got to the point where you know you can’t do it on your own – or maybe you should get help before things deteriorate any further. Take our ‘addiction’ test to see how you get on.

With prescription medication?

Many people do not realise how addictive some prescription medication can be. However, if you or a family member has a problem with it, you will know! Prescription medication such as that prescribed for anxiety (such as Diazepam and Lorazepam), for sleeplessness and for depression can be either physically or psychologically addictive or both.  Like other addictive substances, we build up a tolerance and need to take more and more to get the effect we used to get from a much lesser dose. Coming off some prescription meds can be worse than coming off class A drugs like heroin – especially if they have been used for many years.

Sometimes people are prescribed a cocktail of medication which becomes a problem.

If you or a family member needs help with prescription medication, give us a call and we will advise you of what your best options are.

With gambling

If your gambling has spiralled out of control it will be causing you and your loved ones a great deal of heartache and worry. Excessive gambling destroys lives in the same way as an addiction to drugs or alcohol. It typically brings with it the dishonesty and lies, secrets and destructive behaviours that accompany other forms of addiction – not to mention the financial cost which can be more obvious than with some of the other addictions.

We can offer advice on where to get help if you have a problem with gambling. Call us now for free and confidential support.

With food

Do you have an issue with food or are you witness to this in someone you love? Do you not eat enough and have to force yourself to eat? Do you eat too much or binge and make yourself sick? Do you have an issue with your body image which affects your eating?

Like many other addictions, an eating disorder can develop if you do not like yourself very much, have some emotional pain and want to have control over your body and feelings. Eating disorders can be very complex and can also involve secret behaviours, lies and a great deal of unhappiness.

We can direct you to the best support available depending on your unique personal circumstances.
